Imane Khelif's dad has spoken out amid the controversy surrounding her participation in the Olympics. Khelif’s first-round boxing match against Italian rival Angela Carini was abandoned after just 46 seconds, sparking criticism and rumors.

Khelif was previously disqualified by the International Boxing Association (IBA) for not meeting gender eligibility criteria. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) cleared her to fight in Paris. Her father, Amar Khelif, has now confirmed that Imane was born female, showing an official document from May 2, 1999.

Amar Khelif criticized the ongoing attacks on his daughter and urged her to prove her critics wrong by winning Olympic gold. He said, "Imane is a little girl who has loved sports since she was six. These critics don't want her to be a champion. I hope she will honor Algeria and win the gold medal."

Italian boxer Angela Carini has apologized for the controversy and for ignoring Khelif's post-fight handshake. She expressed regret and said, "I don't have anything against Khelif. If I were to meet her again, I would embrace her."

Khelif is set to fight Hungarian Anna Luca Hamori next. The Algerian Olympic Committee has also addressed the controversy, stating that they will take action against those who have attacked Khelif on social media. They concluded by wishing Khelif good luck and expressing pride in her representing Algeria.
