Justin Bieber’s 2020 interview about wanting to protect Billie Eilish from the dark side of the music industry is making headlines again, following the recent arrest of Sean “Diddy” Combs on serious charges. Bieber’s comments about shielding Eilish now seem more significant as people question whether his concerns were only about the industry in general or pointed toward figures like Diddy.

In the 2020 interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Bieber, who became a superstar at just 14, opened up about how tough it was for him to handle fame at a young age. “I just want to protect her,” he said about Eilish. “I don’t want her to go through anything I went through. I don’t wish that upon anybody.” He spoke tearfully about feeling lost and unsupported, saying, “It was hard for me... and everyone telling me they loved me, and turn their back on you in a second.”

Bieber, who had gone through very public struggles, said the pressures were “dark” and that he hoped to be there for Eilish if she ever needed him. “If she ever needs me, I’m gonna be here for her. I’m just a call away,” he said.

These remarks have resurfaced as social media users discuss a past video of Bieber and Diddy, where Diddy jokingly said he had “custody” of the then-15-year-old Bieber for 48 hours. The video has sparked more conversation, especially after the recent legal troubles involving Diddy.

Bieber’s concern for Eilish now feels even more timely as people reflect on the pressures young stars face in the music industry.
