Dallas Mavericks Waive Kemba Walker To Create Playing Time For Younger Guards

The Dallas Mavericks have decided to release point guard Kemba Walker after a nine-game stint with the team.

The decision to waive Walker, who was set to have his salary guaranteed on Saturday, was reportedly made in order to give more playing time to younger guards on the team, including rookie Jaden Hardy and two-way player McKinley Wright IV.

During his time with the Mavericks, Walker had a somewhat underwhelming performance, with the exception of a 32-point outing against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Dec. 17.

However, despite his small size and defensive shortcomings, Walker's past success as an All-Star and his veteran leadership may allow him to find a role on a younger team looking for guidance for its newer players.

If not, it is uncertain how much longer Walker's career in the NBA will continue.
