WNBA player Brittney Griner has signed a one-year deal with the Phoenix Mercury.

Griner made headlines in 2022 after being arrested for carrying weed at a Russian airport, but she announced her intention to return to Phoenix in December.

The 6-foot-9 center played for the Mercury in 2021, helping them reach the WNBA Finals with a 20.5 point and 9.5 rebound average.

The news of Griner's signing was first announced on the website "Her Hoops Stats."

A source familiar with the deal spoke to The Associated Press on February 18, but no official announcement has been made yet.

Diana Taurasi, the WNBA's all-time leading scorer, also signed a multiyear deal with the Mercury on the same day.

Taurasi has played for the Mercury since being drafted by the team in 2004.
