UFC star Dustin Poirier has slapped a fan who mocked his wife with a Conor McGregor catchphrase sign at a Mardi Gras parade.

Poirier has been in a long-standing rivalry with McGregor, and the pair have exchanged verbal barbs on social media since their last fight in July 2021, with McGregor vowing to continue their feud.

The fan held up a sign with the words "Your wife is in my dm's" that McGregor had used to mock Poirier previously.

Poirier caught sight of the sign and slapped the heckler as he drove by in his truck, which surprised the fan.

The UFC star continued to gesture at the fan, who was separated by the distance between the truck and his viewpoint.

Fans on social media praised Poirier's response, with some suggesting he should have done more.

McGregor's X-rated rant, which introduced Poirier's wife to their rivalry, was seen as crossing a line by many.

The Irishman will return to the octagon for the first time this year against Michael Chandler as part of the UFC's series The Ultimate Fighter.

While their rivalry appears to have taken a break, incidents like this show that the animosity between Poirier and McGregor is still alive.

Poirier's actions have also sparked a debate on whether it's acceptable to insult or mock an athlete's family members or loved ones.
