Manny Pacquiao Advisor: No Discussion of Conor Benn Fight Until Positive Drug Tests Issue Resolved

Sean Gibbons, a longtime fight agent and advisor to Manny Pacquiao, has stated that a potential fight between Conor Benn and Pacquiao will not be considered until there is closure on Benn’s two positive drug tests.

Eddie Hearn, Benn’s promoter, had previously floated the idea of a Pacquiao-Benn fight.

However, the revelations of Benn's failed drug tests for Clomifene, a banned performance-enhancing drug, led to the highly publicized cancellation of his bout with Chris Eubank Jr.

Benn is currently being investigated by the World Boxing Council, the British Boxing Board of Control, and United Kingdom Anti-Doping.

Gibbons acknowledged Pacquiao's interest in exploring a fight with Benn but emphasized the need for Benn to be cleared of any wrongdoing before any constructive talks can take place.

Gibbons also mentioned that if Benn is not cleared, they would consider fighting retired welterweight champion Kell Brook.

Pacquiao, who came out of retirement in December 2021 to toy with South Korean mixed martial artist DK Yoo, is looking to return to the ring for exhibitions and real fights.

However, until Benn gets a green light from the relevant authorities overseeing his suspension, Pacquiao’s camp will refrain from pursuing talks about a fight with Benn.

Pacquiao is happy and wants to do some exhibitions for his fans. Gibbons stated that once there is closure on the positive drug tests issue, then discussions about a potential fight can happen.

In the meantime, Pacquiao is coming to England to do a three-city tour where he will sign autographs and do some boxing like he did in Korea in December.
