Meanwhile, Luka Doncic scored a game-high 37 points for the Mavericks, who were missing Kyrie Irving due to lower back tightness.

Tim Hardaway Jr. also missed his second consecutive game for Dallas with right hamstring tightness.

Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said Irving should be able to participate in the All-Star Game on Sunday despite his absence.

Injuries also plagued the Nuggets as they played without Jamal Murray for the sixth straight game due to right knee inflammation and Aaron Gordon for the third consecutive game due to a left rib contusion.

The Nuggets held a slim lead after the first quarter but took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Mavericks and shooting an impressive 69.6% for the period.

They held a 17-point lead going into halftime after Jokic's layup with less than a second left.

The Mavericks tried to mount a comeback in the third quarter, but the Nuggets maintained their lead and held on to win the game.

The Nuggets' victory puts them at 23-19 for the season, while the Mavericks drop to 21-19.
