Speculation is swirling around the Los Angeles Lakers as they face the possibility of elimination with a 3-0 deficit in the Western Conference Finals against the Denver Nuggets.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN recently hinted at a potential scenario where the Lakers could acquire Kyrie Irving in free agency while retaining Austin Reaves.

During an appearance on The Hoop Collective podcast, Windhorst explained that some maneuvering and negotiation would be required, such as Irving accepting less than the maximum salary or working out a deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

Securing Irving's services would come with risks for the Lakers, potentially reverting them to a top-heavy team similar to their previous setup.

However, the Lakers made significant strides mid-season with the addition of depth players like Jarred Vanderbilt and Rui Hachimura, which Windhorst acknowledged during the podcast. This progress raises intrigue about where Irving may end up next season.

As the Lakers weigh their options, they must decide whether to pursue Irving and create a formidable trio alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis or focus on building a strong roster without him. The decision will undoubtedly shape their offseason plans.

Additionally, the Lakers' pursuit of Irving hinges on his interest in joining forces with James and Davis in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that the Dallas Mavericks are actively trying to retain Irving to complement their star player Luka Doncic. Speculation has also emerged about Irving's potential interest in playing for the Phoenix Suns.

The outcome of these negotiations and Irving's preferences will play a vital role in determining the final destination for the talented point guard in the upcoming season.
