Throughout his pro career, Barea showcased his skills by averaging 8.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. His contributions played a crucial role in securing a championship victory for the Mavericks in 2011.

This move, which was confirmed by sources and reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, marks Barea's entry into the coaching side of the sport in his native Puerto Rico. Barea's tenure in the NBA spanned across two teams—the Dallas Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves—although the majority of his career was spent with the Mavericks.

His impact during his 11 seasons with the Mavericks is evident in his averages of 8.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 0.4 steals per game across 637 regular season appearances, including 93 starts. His role was particularly pivotal during the 2011 Mavericks' championship run alongside Dirk Nowitzki.

One of Barea's standout seasons with the Mavericks occurred in 2017-18, when he displayed his prowess by averaging 11.6 points, 6.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 0.5 steals per game, while also showcasing a three-point shooting accuracy of 36.7%.

Given his history as a winning player in the NBA, it's reasonable to expect that Barea will continue to excel in his coaching role with the Guaynabo Mets. As he embarks on this new endeavor in the Puerto Rican Professional Basketball League, JJ Barea's experience, dedication, and understanding of the game are likely to contribute to his continued success in the basketball world.
