Wander Franco, the prominent All-Star shortstop for the Tampa Bay Rays, has been placed on administrative leave following an agreement between MLB and the MLB Players Association.

This decision means that Franco will not be rejoining the Rays as they return to Tropicana Field on Tuesday night. The placement on administrative leave stems from an investigation initiated by MLB and authorities in his native Dominican Republic.

They are looking into claims made on social media that Franco, who is 22 years old, was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a minor. The placement on the restricted list, which began on August 14 and extended through Monday, was a mutual decision between Franco and the Rays.
MLB issued a statement explaining that this administrative leave is not a disciplinary action under their Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy. The league will continue its ongoing investigation, and further comments will be provided at the appropriate time.

The Tampa Bay Rays swiftly expressed their support for MLB's decision to place Franco on administrative leave, emphasizing their commitment to upholding integrity both on and off the field. During this period, Franco will continue to receive his salary and Major League service time, as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Despite the allegations, Franco denied the claims through an Instagram Live video recorded in the Rays' clubhouse. However, he has not released any official statements or spoken publicly since then. He also did not accompany the team during their recent travels.
Reports suggest that Franco has secured legal representation in both the United States and the Dominican Republic. The Rays, in response to Franco's leave, expressed their willingness to support the league's efforts to comprehend the situation better.

They refrained from making further comments to respect the parties involved. The Rays are poised to commence a six-game homestand against the Rockies following these developments.
