Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams has tragically passed away at the age of 36, as reported by Spectrum News in Buffalo.

The unfortunate incident occurred while he was working at a construction site and sustained injuries in an accident. Williams, originally from Buffalo, had a promising career that began during his college days at Syracuse University.

As a true freshman in 2006, Williams showcased his talent by leading the team with 461 receiving yards. His skills earned him recognition as an all-Big East selection in the following season. However, he faced a setback in 2008 when he was suspended for academic reasons.

Despite these challenges, in 2009, he had a standout performance with 49 catches for 746 yards and seven touchdowns before quitting the team due to possible suspension following a car accident. Surprisingly, Williams was still selected in the fourth round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2010 NFL Draft.

His rookie season was remarkable, leading the team with 964 receiving yards, 65 receptions, and scoring 11 touchdowns, placing second in the Offensive Rookie of the Year voting behind Sam Bradford. The Buccaneers recognized his potential and signed him to a significant contract extension worth nearly $40 million before the 2013 season.

Unfortunately, his career took a downturn as he played only six games that year and was eventually traded to his hometown team, the Buffalo Bills, where he spent a single season. In 2015, he faced a suspension for the first six games of the season, which led to him remaining a free agent throughout the year.

Despite the challenges he faced in the NFL, Williams' legacy at Syracuse University remained strong, with his 20 touchdowns tying for the second-most in school history alongside Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison.

In his professional career, he accumulated 223 receptions, 3,089 yards, and 26 touchdowns, leaving a lasting impact on the world of football. His untimely passing is a sad loss for the sports community.
