Kyle Tucker's Quest For A 30-30 Season Astros Star Petitions For Home Run Milestone

Kyle Tucker experienced a rollercoaster of emotions during Sunday's game, initially believing he had hit his 30th home run of the season.

However, his fifth-inning dash around the bases in the Astros' victory over the D-backs was initially scored as a triple and a fielder's choice. This left him just short of achieving a rare 30-homer, 30-steal season.

Fueled by determination, Tucker revealed his plan to petition Major League Baseball to change the hit to an inside-the-park home run, which would grant him entry into the exclusive 30-30 club, alongside Jeff Bagwell in Astros franchise history. The play itself saw Tucker hitting a ball over D-backs right fielder Jake McCarthy's head.

Initially, McCarthy charged the ball, allowing Tucker to reach third base. However, as Tucker approached third, he noticed D-backs shortstop Jordan Lawlar inexplicably holding the ball in shallow right field. Seizing the opportunity, Tucker raced for home, easily scoring as Lawlar's errant throw to the pitcher became apparent.

The scoring of the play underwent several changes during the game, initially being called a triple and an error, then a triple and a fielder's choice, and finally a home run. Tucker's determination to secure his 30th homer was evident in his decision to attempt the inside-the-park home run.

Despite the scoring confusion, Tucker's performance throughout the season was remarkable. He finished with 112 RBIs, leading the American League in this category. This achievement puts him in the company of Astros legends like Lance Berkman and Bagwell, who also topped the league in RBIs during their careers.

Tucker acknowledged the contributions of his teammates in getting on base, crediting their ability to get hits and draw walks as essential factors in his RBI success. His outstanding season showcased his skill as a powerful hitter and a valuable asset to the Astros.
