In a cost-cutting move during the 2023 offseason, the Padres are seriously considering trading star player Juan Soto, reveals MLB insider Buster Olney.

Soto, a 25-year-old outfielder, is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025, and Olney confidently asserts that a deal is imminent, stating, "Absolutely, 100% he’s going to be traded before the season."

This shocking revelation intensifies the speculation surrounding Soto's future in San Diego, just one year after a blockbuster trade brought him to the city in August 2022.

Soto had signed a one-year contract worth $23 million in January 2023 to avoid salary arbitration, but the Padres, looking to trim payroll by up to 20%, seem keen on parting ways as his contract figure could rise to $33 million in 2024, the final year of arbitration.

If the Padres proceed with trading Soto, a 2019 World Series champion, numerous teams are expected to vie for his talents, given his impressive performance in the previous season with a slash line of .275/.410/.519, 35 home runs, and 109 RBIs in 162 games.

Olney's prediction adds uncertainty to Soto's future, leaving fans and the baseball community eagerly anticipating the developments leading up to the 2024 season.
