D'Angelo Russell, the Los Angeles Lakers guard, has been slapped with a $15,000 fine by the NBA in a surprising turn of events.

The punishment comes in the wake of Russell kicking the game ball into the spectator stands after the Lakers' nail-biting 145-144 overtime win against the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 27 at Chase Center.

Announcing the fine, Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations, emphasized the league's commitment to maintaining decorum on and off the court.
