Devin Haney To Keep WBC Title Despite Loss To Ryan Garcia

Devin Haney will hold onto his WBC super lightweight title even after his recent loss to Ryan Garcia

This decision comes from Mauricio Sulaiman, the head of the WBC, which is different from what usually happens. The title wasn't at stake for Garcia because he didn't make the weight on Friday.

Still, many thought Haney could lose the title if he lost the fight. Even though Haney lost and was knocked down three times, the WBC decided he would keep the title. They pointed to a similar situation from 2005 as their reason.

In that case, Castillo missed the weight but still won by knockout. They were supposed to have another fight in 2006, but it got canceled when Castillo missed the weight again.

In most sports, this decision might seem odd. But in boxing, these things happen sometimes. People expected the title to be vacant if Haney lost. Why the WBC didn't clarify this earlier is a mystery.

In the end, Haney keeps his title, and we move on.
