Ryan Garcia Misses Weight For Devin Haney Fight; New Agreement Reached

Ryan Garcia failed to make weight for his scheduled 140-pound super lightweight title fight against Devin Haney this Saturday.

Haney tweeted that Garcia was three pounds over the limit, confirmed by boxing reporter Dan Rafael, who reported Garcia's weight at 143.2 pounds.

Due to missing weight, Garcia won't be able to compete for the title. However, both fighters are reportedly renegotiating the terms of their contract. Rafael stated they made a financial agreement to proceed with the fight.

Haney revealed that Garcia agreed to pay him $500,000 for each pound over the limit. Despite the informal nature of the agreement, Haney confirmed Garcia would honor it, paying him $1.5 million.

Garcia, known for his success at 135 pounds, has recently moved up in weight class. His last fight in December was at 143 pounds, making it challenging for him to meet the 140-pound requirement for the Haney bout.

The Garcia vs. Haney fight remains highly anticipated, featuring two of the world's best young boxers. Garcia, with a record of 24-1 and 20 knockouts, is a former lightweight champion. Haney, undefeated at 31-0 with 15 knockouts, holds the WBC super lightweight title.

Even without the title at stake, Saturday's fight is pivotal for Garcia. A win over Haney could lead to more significant opportunities in his boxing career.
