Khabib Nurmagomedov Retires As MMA Coach To Prioritize Family Time

Khabib Nurmagomedov, the retired UFC lightweight champion, has announced his departure from his coaching role at American Kickboxing Academy.

He has decided to focus on his family. Khabib's former coach, Javier Mendez, provided further information on the decision to Yahoo Sports, saying "He just doesn't want to miss being a father".

Khabib has enjoyed a successful run in the UFC, with a perfect 29-0 record and 3 successful title defenses before his retirement in October 2020.

Despite his young age, Mendez believed that Khabib could become one of the best coaches in the sport.

It is currently unknown whether Khabib will remain as a coach for one more fight, specifically for Islam Makhachev who will be putting his lightweight title on the line against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284 on Feb. 11.
