Kyrie Irving has requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets before the Feb 9th NBA trade deadline, according to ESPN and The Athletic.

The request came after talks of a new contract did not go in Irving's favor.

Irving's agent and stepmother, Shetellia Irving, reached out to the Nets regarding a contract extension, but there have been no significant conversations to date.

The current deal between Irving and the Nets expires at the end of this season, and Irving is eligible for a four-year contract worth up to $200 million.

Irving has a history of being controversial, having been suspended by the Nets earlier this season and missing much of the 2021-22 season due to his refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

He has also made a number of controversial statements in the past, including questioning the shape of the earth.
