Ravens And Lamar Jackson Contract Negotiations Reach Impasse As Franchise Tag Looms
The Ravens and Lamar Jackson are in a standoff over contract negotiations as the franchise tag window is open.
The main sticking point has been guaranteed money, with the Ravens' top offer from last offseason including $133MM in guaranteed money.
Jackson has repeatedly attempted to use Deshaun Watson's $230MM contract as market value for his next pact, with each counteroffer he has made to the Ravens being fully guaranteed contracts that "exceeded that of Watson."

Other QB extensions around the league since Watson's deal have pointed to it being an outlier, rather than the new norm.
The two parties are expected to use the franchise tag, which will either extend the negotiating period into the summer or open up the possibility of a tag-and-trade.
A decision on whether to use the exclusive or non-exclusive tag will need to be made no later than March 7.
ESPN's report includes further team sources expressing their surprise that Jackson missed the Ravens' wild card loss to the Bengals, drawing criticism from inside and outside the organization for his absence.
Todd Monken's hiring as offensive coordinator has led to the expectation the Ravens will throw the ball more, developing Jackson more as a passer.
Jackson is receiving guidance from the NFLPA on contract negotiations.
Something significant will likely need to take place for traction to be gained regarding a contract being finalized any time soon.
