Lakers Offering Dan Hurley Over $100 Million

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly making a huge offer to Dan Hurley, worth over $100 million. This move aims to entice Hurley away from UConn and college basketball with a significant financial package.

Jeanie Buss, the Lakers' owner, has been known for careful spending, but this offer shows the team's willingness to invest heavily in a top coach. John Fanta of Fox Sports shared on The Zach Gelb Show that the Lakers' offer is at least $100 million guaranteed.

If accepted, this deal would make Hurley one of the highest-paid coaches in the NBA. For comparison, Steve Kerr is currently the top-paid coach with a $17.5 million annual salary.

Gregg Popovich recently signed a five-year deal worth over $80 million per year, while Erik Spoelstra's eight-year contract is valued at $120 million. A six-year, $100 million deal for Hurley would average around $16 million per year, placing him just below Kerr.

This level of financial commitment is rare and something no college can match, as even top college coaches don’t earn such high salaries. This offer shows the Lakers' serious interest in Hurley, believing he can lead the team to success.

Despite the risk of hiring a coach from the college ranks, the Lakers are confident in their choice and are making a strong effort to bring him on board. If Hurley declines, it won’t be due to a lack of effort or a competitive offer from the Lakers.
