Kevin Durant's Departure From Historic Warriors: Blaming Draymond Green Resurfaces As Key Reason

The infamous move of Kevin Durant joining the 73-9 Golden State Warriors in 2016, after their NBA Finals loss, remains one of the most controversial decisions in modern NBA history.

Despite winning two championships with the team, his exit in 2019 triggered speculation about internal conflicts. Durant blamed his fallout with Draymond Green as the primary reason for leaving the historic Warriors side.

The moment that seemed to be the turning point was during a game against the Los Angeles Clippers in November 2019 when Green failed to pass the ball to Durant and then threw tantrums on the sidelines.

The fallout from that incident led Durant to isolate himself, feeling that it marked the beginning of the end of his time with the Warriors. He eventually signed a $164 million deal with the Brooklyn Nets after the team's NBA Finals loss against the Toronto Raptors, where Durant suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon.

His departure marked the end of an era for the Warriors' dominant dynasty. Durant's arrival in Golden State undoubtedly increased the team's firepower, but it also required sacrifices from other players on the offensive end, including Draymond Green.

Green had to relinquish his three-point shooting role, given Durant's scoring abilities and the presence of the Splash brothers on the floor. It is unclear whether Green's outburst against Durant was fueled by his frustration over his changed role within the team.

Nevertheless, the historic Warriors managed to secure the 2022 NBA Championship after Durant's departure, continuing their legacy even without him.
